Environmental management

The sustained extraction of raw materials is carried out with consideration for the existing habitats with their flora and fauna. It gives targeted support for protection of species and biotopes during and after the extraction of the raw materials.

Research in recent years has shown that operational quarrying sites by no means have to necessarily look like “deserts in the landscape”; indeed they can have a networking function contributing towards greater biodiversity.

Knauf has repeatedly proved this.

Active environmental protection

Everyone is talking about sustained development today. Irrespective of whether in municipalities, regions or factories.

The Agenda 21, core document of the world summit of Rio in 1992 stipulates the necessity to work towards economic success, to practice social justice and to conserve the environment Some ten years previously Knauf had already begun to climb its own summit agenda. Today everybody can enjoy the prospect of protected resources, energy savings and quality management.

Ahead of the times
Knauf is a pioneer of an all-embracing company philosophy which sets great store by intelligent, environmentally friendly and energy-conserving production processes. This model leads to maximum quality. Or is it the other way round? Sustainability and quality appear to be contradictory requirements; yet Knauf consistently meets them successfully.

Start protecting the climate locally
Protection of the climate starts within ones own four walls. Hence, Knauf has converted all the firing installations from oil to Gas or from heavy to light heating oil. Wherever possible, waste heat is used to heat the buildings. This has significantly reduced the CO2 emissions from fossil fuels.
